Relevance Theory Perspective Military Term Semantic Generalization Study

With the rapid development of age and the large emergence of military films, a lot of military words have entered other fields by breaking through their original pragmatic scope and gotten new meanings. This paper, from the viewpoint of relevance theory, has an analysis to the semantic extension of military words in other non-military fields. Based on the brief introduction of relevance theory and its approach to context, this paper lists the phenomenon of semantic extension in politics, education, science, health, industry, agriculture and economy, traffic, daily life, literature and art, sports , communications and many other social fields. It illustrates that the relevance theory plays an important role in the course of semantic extension. Finally, this paper concludes the academic achievements of other persons and puts forward the causes and ways of the semantic extension, seeks the impact to the language styles and communicating effects brought by the extensional styles of military terms.
