Japan-US alliance is the most important bilateral relationship in the Asia Pacific region,which has a profound impact on the stability of the Asia-Pacific region and even the world. Early postwar period, Japan and the U.S. formed the alliance relationship under special historical conditions. In the following 50 years, the nature and function of Japan-US alliance has undergone a gradual evolution according to different periods and the international political context. Based on time lines, this paper discussed the formation of the Japan-US alliance, Japan-US alliance during the Cold War and after the Cold War to the present Japan-US alliance in the economic, political and military developments and changes and the reasons for the 21st Century initial and analyzed the future of Japan-US alliance. Body mainly consists of four parts:The first part basing on the Cold War, analyzes the background and causes of the Japan-US alliance. The second part reviews Japan-US alliance during the Cold War. The third part discusses the post-Cold War Japan-US alliance, analysis of Japan-US relations after the Cold War developments. The fourth part based on the discussion of the current international situation, comparatively analysis the existence of the Japan-US alliance strengthening and weakening factors.This main point is: With the change of international situation the balance of world power, and the strategic interests of the two different countries, the Japan-US alliance will gradually weaken, but under the purpose of contain China together, it is not impossible for United States and Japan to strengthen the Japan-US alliance.
