Rural Settlement And It's Space Defending Capabilities

Rural settlement has important functions, not only for living, but also for space defending and crime prevention. Nowadays in coastal areas in Zhejiang province, there's a very awkward situation and with a high crime rate, which is seriously affecting the stable and harmonious order of people's life and working, for that vast majority of villages exist in rural areas, whose settlement form are still open and scattered, and a large number of social security resources are not effectively used. Moreover, actually the awareness of people's collective defense is not strong enough because of the serious lack of the cultural space. With the perspective of Ningbo City, Zhejiang Province, at the first we make a review with the historical origins and development process of the rural settlement. According to the status quo, they are categorized and described with their different form and space defending function. Then some villages in South China are especially introduced and analyzed, which have successful practice for the construction of settlement form and the space defending. Next, by the current crime statistics of Ningbo areas, it is empirical analyzed and proved that there's negative effects of the settlement form for crime prevention. Finally,a series of recommendations are suggested,such as strengthening the planning for rural settlement form, etc.
