Since the Sub-Saharan Africa countries have achieved national sovereignty generally,"nation building" has become the common task to these young countries in the development of political, cultural and other fields. Malawi is a small inland country in southeastern Africa. Compared with other countries in Sub-Saharan Africa, Malawi has made outstanding achievements in contemporary national construction and development. Malawi people have a strong national consciousness, the country could maintain a long-term political stability, it can be described as a successful model of country building in Sub-Saharan Africa. Acrossing about500years linear time of Malawi nation development history, we can get the reasons from it, and see the uniqueness of Malawi nation's development. In the kingdom period, the continuing of Malawi's history and culture left many unique political and cultural heritage to the nation building. In the colonial period, British colonists brought modern national consciousness, political and economic system into Nyasaland, and has made a far-reaching impact. In initial stage of independence, President Banda has drastically launched all kinds of important measures, greatly contributed to the modern state construction and people's national consciousness cultivation. Since1994, Malawi has implemented a multi-party democratic system, the nation's stability and development have been faced many challenges. Through the case study on the history of origin, evolution and development of Malawi nation, this article aims to achieve two basic purposes. On the one hand, it combs the prosperity and decline, success and failure of Malawi nation, sums up the successful experience of the state construction, indicates problems and challenges of their national development and construction, and in order to give some references to Sub-Saharan Africa countries; On the other hand, it focuses on answering an important question throughout the entire article, it is the doubt, why Malawi nation could remain long-term political stability?The thesis has five parts, including introduction, body, conclusion, appendix, references. Introduction part explains the reason and significance of the topic selection; combs the present research situation of domestic and foreign scholars; and gives a short introduction of the thinking, importances and difficulties, theories and methods about this article's writing.Body part contains four chapters. Chapter1describes the begining of the early country in Malawi kingdom period, including the reasons of state rising and all kinds of ruling institutions. In addition, focuses on the causes of Malawi kingdom's declining and great changes of Malawi society in the eve of colonization. Chapter II focuses on the development of Malawi modern politics in the British colonial period, and discourses the development of Malawi nation in three periods, including the early British colony, British Nyasaland, and British Central Africa Federation. Chapter III discusses the nation's construction and contemporary development results under authoritarian ruling of Banda President after the independence. Chapter IV analysises the new trend of national development since multi-party democratic system has been established, and indicates the serious challenges in the new century.Conclusion part reviews the process of Malawi nation's development, summarizes the useful experiences of its nation's construction and development, and indicates the challeges of nation's development under the waving of globalization.Appendix part includes four parts, the chronology of main events, explaination of history words, history maps, and index.References part lists Chinese and English references about this article writting systematically.
