This study analysed the contributions of Chinese model of aid on the economic development of Malawi from 2008 to 2015. The research was qualitative in nature. This study depended largely on primary data which was collected from the Ministry Of Finance, Department of Aid and Debt, Chinese embassy in Malawi and the Malawian embassy in Beijing and informal interviews with different people familiar with the topic at hand through questionnaires and interviews. Secondary data was also used in form journals, articles and newspapers. The study results revealed Chinese aid has significantly contributed towards the development of Malawi since 2008; Chinese aid takes different forms such as complete social projects, goods and materials, technical cooperation, human resource development cooperation, medical assistance, emergency humanitarian aid, volunteer programs, and loans and grants. Lack of transparency, lack of employment opportunities, unspecified scholarships, lack of information and debt burden were identified as challenges with the Chinese model of aid.Chinese aid has indirectly contributed to the economic development of Malawi, with more contributions in the infrastructure development. However, how these contributions have impacted the economic development of Malawi is yet to be assessed in future research.
