| Mind mapping is a very popular thinking tool in the 21st century. It is a visual tool for the knowledge representing and also an approach which embodies divergent thinking. Since mind mapping approach and the concept based on the visual thinking were introduced into the field of education, it has brought a very positive effect on the process of teaching and education.It has become an important tool in training and developing students' thinking quality, as well as in stimulating and guiding students' independent thinking and creative thinking.This thesis attempts to apply mind mapping to helping memorize English words. The English word is the basis for learning English and is also the key to learning English well. However, the difficulty of memorizing words and tedious process of memory has already become the main obstacle of learning English. In 2005, primary and secondary schools of Dalian selected English textbooks which published by Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press (called New Standard English). New Standard English has a large amount of words. It's especially difficult for rural Junior High School students to learn it. This research selects Junior High School students in a rural area of Dalian as the research subject, using the methods of documentation, experiment, questionnaires, interviews and case examples. By designing the English words mapping with cognitive habits of Junior High School students in Grade One and the classroom application's mode to promote English words memory with mind mapping, this thesis explores the effectiveness of using mind mapping to promote English words memory in practice. By applying mind mapping, this research aims to make complicated, forgettable and scattered English words for Junior High School students intuitive, visualized, logical and systematic in human brain, to cultivate the students' scientific study attitude towards memorizing English words, to increase students' interests in learning English words and improve the correct rate of words spelling.The research questions of the thesis are as follows:1. Is there the feasibility of the integration between the mind mapping and the English words?2. What are the methods and the rules of the designing and drawing of English words mapping, which are suitable for applying in English class of the rural Junior High School?3. Can the mind mapping promote English words memory for the students in the rural Junior High School?4,Can we design the English words mappings for each module of Grade One in Junior School English by using mind mapping,which meet the needs of the rural students?The result of the experiment proves:Mind mapping can improve the correct rate of words spelling.Mind mapping can promote the communication and cooperation among the students in the rural Junior High School, the cultivation of students'thinking quality and sense of self-studying ability.â—The English words mapping can improve students'learning habits and increase students'interests in learning English words.In this study, there are still some limitations:First, the experimental results were only got from classroom applications of one term, so experimental results are inevitably one-sided and have a certain stage. Second,the means of evaluation are not comprehensive enough. Third,the combination of experiment and information technology is inadequate. At last, the author is looking forward to the further research. |
