Vocabulary memorizing, as an important process of language learning, often has a direct influence on the learners' language competence. Therefore, English vocabulary memorizing is undoubtedly a basic foundation for Chinese primary school students. And it is one of the greatest difficulties and obstacles in primary school students' English learning. Apparently, the focus of teaching primary students to memorize English vocabulary is thus of special significance. The language transfer theory also considers, however, the learners'native language may bring a positive or negative impact in the process of their second language acquisition. That is to say, there is a positive function or a negative impact on the foreign language studying. The native language will actively help the second language acquisition when the mother tongue and target language are similar or nearly the same; otherwise, it will act negatively. On the basis of the language transfer theory, this thesis has mainly conducted an empirical research and an inductive analysis based on a term experiment carried out at a primary school in Pulandian, Dalian, with two parallel classes of the third-grade students as the testing subjects. Based on the empirical research, it has further discussed the Chinese language transfer signs showed by the primary students and their potential impacts upon English vocabulary learning. This dissertation highlights the learning methods and studying strategies of the primary students used in their English vocabulary memorizing as well as the corresponding effectiveness and efficiencies. This experiment aims at the teaching practice in memorizing English vocabulary of the primary students by means of questionnaires, sampling analysis and comparative study. During the process of learning English vocabulary, the native language would influence the students either in a positive aspect or a negative way. However, if the teacher can offer effective guidelines, the students would be led into positive way to learn the second language. And even with the help of our native language, they will improve their English vocabulary memorizing efficiencies.
