After the reform and opening up,English is becoming more and more important.Vocabulary learning,the basis of English language knowledge,plays a more important part.Although many scholars have studied so much on vocabulary teaching in junior middle school,it is not very ideal in actual teaching.First,teachers lack of knowledge of the importance of vocabulary teaching,and then,students do not have a valid method of learning and do not have a good understanding of the meaning of words.Therefore,an effective vocabulary teaching method is very necessary to improve the situation that vocabulary teaching has emerged a time-consuming and inefficient phenomenon.The author in this article mainly focuses on the application of pictographic memorizing method of English vocabulary teaching in junior middle school.There are three research questions in this paper.First,compared with the usual method,whether pictographic memorizing method can improve the English vocabulary learning achievement of junior middle school students? Second,is there any differences existing in learning achievement among different levels of students when pictographic memorizing method is employed? Third,whether pictographic memorizing method used in teaching practice can stimulate students' learning interest?In this article,the author uses quantitative analysis,qualitative induction and questionnaire,and the research tools include vocabulary test papers and software SPSS21.0.The object of this paper are the students in two parallel classes in Grade 8 in NO.1 Middle School in Cheng' an County,Handan City,Hebei Province.The experimental class uses pictographic memorizing method and the control class uses the usual vocabulary teaching method.Two classes are taught by the author.And the same textbook is compulsory education textbook in Grade 8(second).Results of this study are as follows: first,compared with the usual method,pictographic memorizing method can improve the English vocabulary learning achievement of junior middle school students;second,pictographic memorizing method is more suitable for medium and low groups students,while,for high achievers,their vocabulary scores improved marginally;third,pictographic memorizing method used in teaching practice can stimulate students' learning interest.Meanwhile,the study also draws some inspiration.First,pictographic memorizing method used in vocabulary teaching achieves the unity of theory and practice,and also pictographic memorizing method gives vocabulary teaching a fresh injection of blood.Second,teachers must establish the “lifelong learning” concept and constantly adjust their teaching methods and strategies,and at the same time,they should fully prepare before class.Third,students are supposed to recognize that learning has its own way to follow,and learning of English words can be vivid and interesting.Only by paying attention to their own understanding,participation and experience can students become masters of learning.
