Volunteer service adjusts to the objective needs of modern society, and is deemed as the symbol of modern civilization. With the development of society and the prosperity of public utilities, volunteer service has gained the attention and concern form countries, governments and societies all over the world more and more. That's because it can have a profound economical and social effect on human development and social progress. In China, the movement of volunteer service has not been initiated until the reform and opening. Despite starting a litter late, it has made a great progress and had an outstanding influence on society benefiting from the urgent needs of economy and society and the strong push of the government. Especially in 2008, the successful holding of Beijing Olympic Games and Paralympic Games did tremendously develop the volunteer service of large-scale sports. The model of volunteer service with Chinese characteristics in large-scale sports has been forming, which attracted widespread attentions of international society. As an important force in a volunteer team, the volunteers in sports also got the attention of many researchers. However, at present, the existent research achievements mainly focus on the motivations and functions of volunteer service, and rarely have thorough discussions about the model of volunteer service in large-scale sports. In fact, whether the model of volunteer service in sports is scientific or not greatly influences the role displayed by volunteers. Therefore, it is necessary to theoretically summarize and construct the model of volunteer service in large-scale sports in China. Taking the Eleventh National Games held in Shandong Province in 2009 as the object, through the field research of the situations of volunteer service in Jinan Zone, the paper tries to generalize the model of volunteer service in large-scale sports from the sociological point of view. It is wished to enrich the related theories of volunteer service and help to promote the perfection of the model of volunteer service in large-scale sports. With depth interview and documents research, combing the existent achievements, the paper performs the analyses of the features, influencing factors, functions and limitations of the model of volunteer service in large-scale sports, which is based on the angle of structural functionalism, to supply references to how to carry out the volunteer service of the sports well in the future. The research finds that, in China, under the special background and institution environment, the model of volunteer service in large-scale sports adheres to organizational model that party and government plan as a whole, specialized agencies launch, schools and administrative and enterprise units assist, the citizens participate broadly. In the management of human resources, it executes the operational model that the mechanisms of recruitment, training, guarantee and incentive combine with each other, with publicity mechanism throughout the whole process. The generation of this model is not only closely bound up with individual behavior consciousness, but also accepts the influence exerted by various social structural factors. Among them, the social structure with all kinds of units and the prevalent voluntary culture in the society are the most important influencing factors. The volunteer service dominated by the government, making use of strong publicity to mobilize the general public to participate, can not only provide services of quality for the smooth running of large-scale sports, but also promote to realize the socialization of volunteers. Moreover, it can greatly improve the degree of the public's involvement in social public affairs, and enhance the social integration.Without doubt, the model of volunteer service in sports is far from perfect now. There are still many problems during the process when we carry it out in reality. For example, the calculation of the demand for human resource is not accurate, and staffing is unreasonable. The structure of human resource is not reasonable with unitary subject. The development of legalization is lagging behind. And volunteers cannot display their value fully. All of those problems need to be improved and perfected in the future.
