In today's information-based society, the influence of the media has been growing continuously. Mass media which include newspapers, television, radio, Internet and mobile phones have been expanded rapidly. Massive chunk of information makes people feel overwhelmed and its influence has permeated every corner of life. It affects people's emotions and way of life to a great extent. Media has become the most important means for people to get access to information, make social interaction and receive education.Campus media is a special form of media which is mainly present in the campus.Ideological and political education is one of the major tasks universities undertake for now and future. Campus media shoulders important responsibility of the ideological and political education for the college students of China.The paper begins with the analysis of the function of the mass media. Through the analysis of the characteristics of various types of the campus media, the paper endeavors to reveal the ideological and political education function of the campus media, and to identify the obstacles the campus media is facing in making ideological and political education, on which basis it will be possible to find a better way to build campus media under the current social circumstances.This article is divided into four parts:the first part and the second part will be focused on the analysis of the important role of campus media in college ideological and political education, as well as the specific functions of campus media in ideological and political education and its role in solving the related problems. The third part is to analyze the barriers campus media faces in ideological and political education, which also serves the purpose of discovering the problems. The fourth part is to find a solution to the problems the campus media meets, which helps to better build up a sound campus media environment. It is also the core argument value of this paper.
