As is mentioned in the book "Basic Education Curriculum Reform(Trial)", the innovation of Students'learning mode should be changed, which is the focus of the school's all-round promotion of quality education in our country, with special emphasis on independence, cooperation and learning ways to explore and to study, to alter the situation which teachers, classroom and text books are regarded as our teaching centers, so as to promote students'learning and self-development.With the improvement of our social living standard, people are requiring more qualified education. At the same time, the number of the children preparing for primary school is decreasing. These lead to "the Small-class Education" possible in some developed areas in China. "The Small-class Education" provides students with much better conditions than the traditional education. And it assures the process of "qualified-education."However, at present, most of small-class schools are due to the lack of quantity and quality of students such objective reasons, therefore in most of the small English classroom teachers adapt traditional teaching methods like before, just like a man wearing "new shoes" walk on the same road. There is no fundamental change in classroom teaching. In the small English classroom, the teachers often explain everything and students just listen to them for most of time, instead of students speaking English and find the rules. Therefore, we should put our effort to reform teaching methods and improve teaching effectiveness. In English teaching, we should try to introduce small group cooperative learning and use it in the small classroom, and make full use of the advantages of small classes, to change the past teacher-student relationship and lecture model, to mobilize the enthusiasm of students learning English, and encourage students sense of participation and collaboration to achieve class communicative teaching.In recent years, many researchers have done a lot of research on the team cooperative learning, and has achieved considerable results. Significance of this study is to adopt the Cooperation learning method with the advantages of small-class environment and to explore the effectiveness of the strategy in small group work environment in order to ensure its effective implementation in the classroom teaching. Then to study the effective implementation of strategies provide teachers in small-class with effective and feasible reference and recommendations.There are five parts in this thesis:Chapter one:Find out the questions. Social background is also discussed by describing latest teaching situation in junior middle schools and pointing out the necessities and importance of cooperative learning theories.Chapter two:theoretical basis of cooperative learning patterns.Chapter three:the advantages of small group cooperative learning in small-class environment. Chapter four:researching process. It mainly discuss the effectiveness of the strategy in small group work environment through which questionnaires and classroom observation, interviews and pre-post-tests are used to collect and analysis related data.Chapter five:summary and reflection, which is our conclusion for the whole thesis. Because of the limited and inadequate theoretical level and practical level of teaching, this study needs further improvement and development.
