Researchers attach great importance to the cognitive strategies and social/affection strategies while they neglect the metacognitive strategies. From both the theoretical and empirical aspect, the thesis aims to discuss the validity of metacognitive strategies training to the students of senior school in the process of their vocabulary autonomous learning. At first, the author introduces the meaning of the vocabulary learning and the essence of the vocabulary autonomous learning. After retrospection of the phylogeny of learning strategy, the author probes into the learning strategies and the classification of the strategy training as well as the strategies-based instruction. The relationship between the metacognitive strategies and vocabulary autonomous learning is also discussed with the meaning of metacognitive strategies studied. Then, the relevant successful cases of metacognitive strategies ale introduced.And then the author investigates the learning strategies used by the students of three middle schools in Jiangning through questionnaire ; connected with the results of the final exam, the author does the correlation analysis and regressive analysis to study the relationship between the final grades of the students and vocabulary strategies, strategies among the middle schools and the final exam grades, the boy students and girl students and the relationship the final exam grades, the correlation coefficient of strategies, the linearity relationship between the final grades and strategies. The result indicates vocabulary learning strategy has great effects on the English grades. It also shows the difference among schools and boy students and girl students. The author finds a better strategy from more than twenty strategies, the combination of meaning and form helps remember English words in the situation where I want to use the word and I learn the words English teachers don't ask me to learn. At the same time, students can make up for the difference among schools by hard work.
