With the continue further development of China's reform and opening up, thegradual improvement of market economy and the successful accession to WTO aswell as the holding of2008Olympic Games, the world language—English, whosehighlighted importance has been self-evident. In recent years, the feedbackinformation from the talent market indicates that the demand for high-quality foreigntrade talents is increasing dramatically. Especially the graduates who have thebackground knowledge of business English are much welcomed by foreign tradeenterprises.For this reason,"Business English" became a popular practical course opened inmost vocational schools. But during the teaching process, it is of little difference withthe Basic English teaching and learning process. The courseware is mainly focused onbasic knowledge of business English and the multimedia courseware regarding visual,listening and training rarely exists. The opening of "Business English" course invocational institutions is to enable students to combine the English language skills andbusiness practice, and integrate the knowledge and their future careers, so that theycan meet the actual needs of different jobs. Therefore, the multimedia coursewaresuitable for "Business English" teaching and learning in vocational institution urgentlyneeds to be developed.It is said by Ministry of Education in "Vocational Education and Training onStrengthening the Work" that we should actively promote computer-aided instruction,multimedia technology, virtual technology, modern information technology to expandthe information in classroom teaching and improve the efficiency of the classroom.This is a summary of the long time thinking and study on the reform of highervocational education, also provides a specified direction to most of the vocationalinstitutions.The use of multimedia technology is the main form of computer-aidedinstruction (CAI), and also the comprehensive and creative application of thetraditional teaching forms. Especially with the advantages of integration of the display,the selection of hypertext links, operational human-computer interaction, the richnessof large-capacity storage, convenience of high-speed transmission, multimediacourseware would realize the combination of integrity£scientific£artistic and technicalof classroom teaching. It is of a very important significance for the course of"Business English", which requires a lot of interaction and practice.For the above situation, combining the teaching objectives and tasks of business English, I summed up a series of practical business knowledge of English throughresearch, then design and finish a set of multi-media courseware suitable for"Business English" in the vocational schools using related multimedia educationaltechnology. This paper first analyzes the development of multimedia technology in"Business English" course teaching in higher vocational colleges, coming to theconclusion that this course needs interactive teaching method. To achieve interactiveteaching we should use multimedia technology. Then, the basic principles ofmultimedia courseware development as the guiding ideology, based on thecharacteristics of "Business English" course teaching, this paper shows a detaileddesign about the overall structure of the courseware, interactive design, presentationof the various elements, focusing on the development process of "Business English"multimedia courseware. Finally, it conducts a comprehensive assessment to thecourseware through teaching applications, questionnaires and other means, in order tobuild a set of relatively complete, practical multimedia courseware used for vocational"Business English" course teaching.
