The famous educationist Cai Yuanpei once said, the education without arts is not complete. With the further development of educational reform, fine arts education, as an important component of the Arts and higher education, has also been increasingly enriched and improved and played an important role in cultivating students'comprehensive quality. The Fine Arts Appreciation therefore takes its special place in quality education of college students as part of arts education. With the Fine Arts Appreciation included in higher education, college students'creative thinking and critical thinking can be greatly improved and their interest and appreciation in beauty can be cultivated. The power they gained from the fine arts may not only help them form aesthetics values but also have positive influence in their moral values and outlook on life. Meanwhile, the Fine Arts Appreciation may lead to a positive quality cultivation of necessary talents in modern society. So it is really necessary for us educational workers to make this course work efficiently in higher education by emancipating our minds and converting our traditional notions.This paper focuses on the analysis of the Fine Arts Appreciation as the optional class in college of different majors varying from cognition to understanding in fine arts, with the guideline of quality education in higher education and educational practice. The present college students who are non arts majors to a great extent are deficient in the aesthetics. The teacher must take the role of relevant education through classes.This paper is composed of five chapters. The first chapter is the introduction to the paper, with the background and significance along with the methods and procedure of the research being stated. The second chapter is about the characters of the Fine Arts Appreciation in college. In this chapter, the present educational status of fine arts is discussed with the difference of Fine Arts Appreciation as optional class and those for majors, and the setting of this course. The third chapter discusses in detail the importance of fine arts appreciation in quality education. From the mutual relationship the core position of Fine Arts Appreciation is analyzed. Meanwhile, the teacher also plays an important role in this course. The fourth chapter is about the investigation and practical problems, which investigates the cognition of arts of non arts majors and the differences and similarities of those among the art, the science and majors. The last chapter is the exploration of teaching. A comprehensive teaching is implemented with the knowledge of the characteristic of this course in college. Finally the effect of this course among students is concluded.In summary, it is undoubtedly true that the course of Fine Arts Appreciation in college plays a positive role in students'comprehensive development. This paper intends to do a research on how to make full use of class to its utmost facing students of different major and different level. With the summary and analysis from the teaching practices of ages, it's the writer's sincere hope that more and more attention will be paid to this course and the quality education will be greatly benefited therefrom.
