Teacher is one of the most important elements for education quality in the school. Improving teacher professional development has been a important target of teacher education reform in the world. The official document Recommendation Concerning the Status of Teacher demonstrated that teaching is a profession, and teacher is an professional in 1966. Therefore a framework of professional standards for teacher is necessary. Some developed countries have developed professional standards in order to improve teachers'continuing professional development and professional status since 1980s.The UK is a leader of education reform in the world, the revised professional standards for teachers in England in 2007 is an integrative professional standards. We are developing our own professional standards for teacher, the study of professional standards in the UK can make inspiration for us.This paper is composed of an introduction and four chapters .The introduction includes the reason of the study, the method, content of this paper and definitions of some terms.The first chapter analyses the background of professional standards for teacher from national and international aspects.The second chapter analyses the theoretical principle and the content of the revised professional standard framework in England.The third chapter demonstrates the application of the professional standards ,and the impact of standards for CPD, students' achievement and the whole school improvement.The last chapter makes inspiration for our country through the access of professional standards for teacher in the UK.
