At present, our government has paid increasingly attention to the rural basiceducation reform, therefore rural teacher professional development also become moreand more important. For that reason, this study chose the teacher professionalstandards as the background and took the rural junior middle schools’ teachers inYunnan province as the subjects to investigate the problem of rural teachers’professional development through questionnaires and interview. Moreover, this studyalso proposed some effective solution for the problem we found. The problems wefound are lots. For instance, the teachers’ identity is low, the teachers’ structure isunreasonable, and the teachers’ profession quality is low too. Furthermore, scarceeducation resources block the developing of teaching activities and the developmentof teachers. In response to this issues, the author put forward the followingcountermeasures: give the expect status to rural teachers; establish special subsidiesfor rural teachers; improve the system of teachers qualification censorship andconfiguration; teacher professional development should be independently; improvethe management system of school, the school culture construction and the supportsystem of teachers’ professional development; Strengthen investment in rural schooleducation resources a; make full use of local resources to develop school-basedcurriculum; establish the parents committee to take part in the management of thestudents.The thesis is divided into six parts:Chapter one is introduction, which mainly illustrates the background, the purposeand significance of this study. The summary of teacher professional developmentresearch, and the research ideas and methods are also introduced.Chapter two is the theoretical framework of this study. This part firstly definesthree core concepts: rural junior middle school teachers, teachers professionalizationand teachers professional development. Then the theory of teacher professionalquality is introduced and explained, which is the base of the study.Chapter three will provide the requirement of teacher professional standards forjunior middle school teachers. These requirements are to improve teacher’sprofessional ethics, rebuild the educational concept, update and complete knowledgestructure, enhance the practical ability of teaching, and foster a sense of the professional development of lifelong learning.The status of rural junior middle school teachers in Yunnan province areprovided in chapter four. This section details the research purpose, research object,research content and the implementation process, and the analysis of the results of thesurvey.Chapter five will present the problem of rural junior middle school teacher inYunnan province.Finally, the countermeasures for the present problems of junior middle schoolteacher in Yunnan province are drawn in chapter six.
