With the History method and Document method, the author has systematically researched the aesthetic education's functions of university in this thesis, and hopes it can help people to recognize the aesthetic education of university and its functions more clearly and complete the theory of aesthetic education further, moreover, the author expects it can provide the theoretical guidance for the practical activity of aesthetic education of university.The principal contents of this thesis include the following aspects:First, by searching the keywords from the deferent existing definitions, and comparing the differences between general aesthetic education and the aesthetic education of university, the author gives a comparatively clear definition for the aesthetic education of university. The aesthetic education of university is a kind of social and practical activity by appreciating and analyzing the various beauty materials, which follows the aesthetic theory.The aesthetic education of university is a complicated system, which has its specific structure. The aesthetic education's structure of university decides the aesthetic education's function of university, oppositely, the aesthetic education's function impact the aesthetic education's structure of university as well. The aesthetic education's structure of university can engender different functions, meanwhile, the same function may need the different structures to realize.Second, the aesthetic objects contain three kinds of beauties, and can be divided into social beauty, natural beauty and artistic beauty. The three kinds of beauties have different functions because of their special characters. It can make people love life and people's emotion achieve a kind of great step, when we are appreciating and analyzing the social beauty and natural beauty. Besides, appreciating and analyzing the artistic beauty can complete people's aesthetic structure of psychology. As a whole, the aesthetic education's function of university can be divided into two kinds from two angles. From the targets of effects, it can be divided into individual and cultural function. From the modes of effects, it can be divided into explicit and implicit function.Third, university students plunge their whole heart into the aesthetic objects during the aesthetic activities. With strong interest to learn and think, university students can recognize and understand the contents and forms of the aesthetic objects further. Therefore, the aesthetic education can promote the development of all aspects of moral quality, can keep the balance between the concrete-visual thought and abstract-logical thought, can enforce sports consciousness, can bring up sports habit, can complete personality, and can improve mental health.Fourth, university students from various nations have different aesthetic structure of psychology, thus their aesthetic experience and judgment are diverse. In fact, the aesthetic objects which selected from various nations in the aesthetic activities of university are reflection of diverse social cultures. Therefore, the aesthetic education of university can criticize and select culture, can propagate and activate culture, and can exchange and integrate culture.Fifth, the realization of the aesthetic education's function of university needs two conditions, one is completed system of the aesthetic education of university, includes hardware and software; the other is implementing the aesthetic education of university scientifically, includes the followed principles of implementation, approaches and methods of implementation.
