In recent years, with the constant development of foreign language teaching research, rapid progress has been made in the empirical studies of effectiveness of recitation in English teaching. This paper, based on the research findings made by predecessors and fellow teachers in this field, has conducted an investigation into the effectiveness of recitation in English teaching in specialty-oriented classes of secondary vocational schools. The specialty-oriented entrance examinations organized by some institutions of higher learning in Jiangsu Province, as a connection and link between secondary vocational education and higher vocational education as well as part of college-entrance -examination system, has grabbed the attention of professionals in educational and other fields. However, the English proficiency of those who are recruited through specialty-oriented entrance examinations is far from satisfactory. In the process of teaching, the author of this paper has found that recitation input method in English learning is quite effective. The author of this paper believes that recitation method has direct pertinence to and applicability in English teaching in specialty-oriented classes in secondary vocational schools.Having studied the theoretical principles of recitation method in language learning and teaching, the paper explores the situation of the researches on English teaching methodology in vocational schools at home and recitation method employed in language learning and teaching at home and abroad as well as the application conditions of recitation method in English teaching in specialty-oriented classes when they were junior middle school students. The author of this paper has attempted to implement recitation method in English teaching by requiring the students in the experimental class (09 students who major in computer science and application) to recite some texts, dialogues and some articles carefully selected by the present author. An empirical study has been made into the result and effectiveness of such a teaching approach.By means of empirical study, test, survey and interviews, the author of this paper aims at finding out how the specialty-oriented students employed the method of recitation in English acquisition when they were junior middle school students, in what respects and to what extent recitation can help improve the specialty-oriented students' English and what kinds of teaching methods and recitation strategies should be provided for the specialty-oriented students in the process of the implementation of English recitation teaching method in order to enhance their recitation effectiveness.Through this study, the present author also hopes to promote the reform and innovation of English teaching methods in specialty-oriented classes, to urge English teachers in vocational schools to study theories of linguistics and foreign language teaching and the present situation and dynamic state of the research in this field so as to enhance their own theoretical capability. Ultimately the present author hopes to find a suitable teaching method for specialty-oriented classes in secondary vocational schools so that the present situation where the specialty-oriented students learn English could be remedied, that the student might be encouraged and inspired to learn English, and that their English would be improved. The experimental results show that most of the experimental group students were exposed to English recitation when in junior middle schools, but at that time they did not take a keen interest in recitation and did not master any good recitation strategies, that recitation is of help to the specialty-oriented students in learning English, especially in improving their English writing and speaking , and that recitation can greatly improve the students' English grades in examinations, the prerequisite for which is that English teaching should be conducted in a new way, and that the students should be guided by effective recitation strategies. The experimental results also indicate that the two measures that the present author took during her experiment by taking a new teaching method and by providing them with effective recitation strategies according to their different situations are suitable for the specialty-oriented students in their English learning, and that the efficiency of recitation in her experimental group was improved to a great extent.
