The ideological and political education is an advantage of the communist party of China. It takes the ideological and political education discipline as support and also has the noticeable influence to it. There is an interaction between them and they react upon each other.As a new subject , the ideological and political education discipline takes the Marxism as the base of theory and summarizes our party's experience. It also has a great significance to the development of socialism with Chinese characteristics. However, the economical flood allows people to start paying more attention to the self-value and the realization of their own interests in the trend of globalization. Besides, the ideological penetrating from western countries into our country is persistent. The status of the discipline has been shaken heavily. It also brought the unprecedented challenge to the further development of the discipline.With its own theory of knowledge and methodology, the ideological and political education discipline has the legitimacy . But some scholars and public still have some academic doubts and suspicions. In fact, it is the suspicion in the legitimacy. But the legitimacy is not self-appointed. The source are various and the validity of guidance from the discipline is very important. If we want to strengthen the legitimacy and consolidate position of the discipline, the following measures are essential: first, we have to correct understanding of the function and value of the ideological and political education; Secondly, try hard to strengthen the validity of the contents, methods and ability to solve problems; Finally, make great efforts to promote the construction of discipline itself, in order to provide a powerful support to the status.
