Under The Theory Hierarchy Of Needs On The Development Of Chinese Wushu

Martial arts is important cultural heritage for Chinese; it is a traditional ethnic sports which is unique in China; it is traditional sports which takes skilled movement as main content, and takes method, fight for routines and sport forms, emphasizes internal and external training. In China, Wushu has been handed down for thousands of years until today, and is not obsolete with development of society. It shows that Wushu develops along with the progress of history, and it is suitable for the need of different historical period's value. In different historical conditions, Wushu continuously reforms and evolves to meet the needs of people, making it fit for the new needs with new contents and forms. Due to the development of society, economy, technology and other aspects of human civilization, the needs of their people has already changed from low-level material needs to senior spiritual ones. But from the global view, the speed of development is slower than speed of the need of people and society.Utilizing references, logic analysis, and interview with expert as the research methods, on the basis of Maslow's theory, this thesis studies the development course of martial arts, and points out the direction of future researches martial arts. This paper divides martial arts development into different levels on basis of Maslow's theory, and expounds roles of Wushu and its functions in development of each level. In cold weapon period, the appearance of Wushu is meeting the material needs of people to survive. This kind of need facilitates Wushu's appearance and development. Then, Wushu is used in military war for need of safety which is foundation of Wushu's development. When cold weapon period ends, Wushu becomes more modern to meet needs of social interaction between people. This kind of social interaction makes the development of Whushu much more diversified.With the development of society, people are more and more civilized, and people begin to respect each other in process of daily communication. Therefore, respect becomes ethics criterion for Wushu's development. The development of Wushu should advance with the times. Wushu should not only meet needs of times, but also should meet senior material and spiritual needs of people. In other words, Wushu should meet needs of people which concern about self-fulfilment and self-worth. Self-worth of people is the final objective of Wushu's development.
