| Vocabulary is the basis of language learning, which plays a vital role in the learning of senior high school students. The National English Curriculum Standard demands a higher acquisition of vocabulary both in quantity and quality, based on the appropriate employment of learning strategies. At present, senior high school students do devote a large amount of time to lexical learning, but the efficiency is low, and the effect is poor, so it is pretty beneficial to get a clear idea of the current vocabulary learning situation of senior high school students and the overall use of vocabulary learning strategies.Based on this background, this research carries out questionnaires among 102 students in Grade Two from a certain high school in Wenzhou City, Zhejiang Province to investigate the overall using of vocabulary learning strategies and interviews 5 English teachers from the same grade. The main findings are concluded as follows: The students of Senior Two are lacking in using English vocabulary learning strategies reasonably, especially the meta-cognitive strategy and the memory strategy. Besides, there exists a close relation between vocabulary learning strategies and English performance. High- strategy learners obviously have better English scores than low-strategy learners. In addition, the frequency of using strategies among boys is lower than that among girls. Accordingly, some suggestions have been proposed on the basic training principles and methods of English vocabulary learning strategies.This research consists of five sections: Chapter One is a brief introduction, which states the current problems with vocabulary learning and presents research questions, emphasizing the necessity and the significance of the study. Chapter Two reviews related researches on language strategies carried out by different researchers at home and abroad and the relevant theories on which language learning strategies are based. Chapter Three provides a detailed presentation about the methods of conducting the survey, including describing what this study aims to investigate, who participate in the study, what kind of instruments are employed, and how datum are collected and analyzed in order to answer the research questions. Chapter Four involves suggestions about strategies of the English vocabulary learning and teaching in senior high school, based on the results and data analysis in Chapter Three. The last chapter is the conclusion of the study. |
