The Physical education textbook is an important carrier in PE teaching, it is a medium of communication between teachers and students, and plays a crucial role in human's cultivating and developing. This paper used content analysis. Through analyzing the existing Sino-US Middle school physical education textbooks from six indicators (the guiding ideology, the structure, the design, the content, the style, and the characteristics), in order to find the functional characteristics and patterns on U. S. P. E. materials values, objectives and contents, learn from their experience of P. E. materials design and development. The results showed:(1) The two textbook versions are similar with guiding ideology and basis. Both of the two PE curriculum textbooks used "health first" as their guiding ideology; are based on the physical education curriculum standards.(2) They are reflected in their requirements physical education curriculum standard in writing process.(3) The structure of the two textbook versions showed a greater difference. Structure of version PEP is simple and clear, highlighting the main line; HK version is relatively complex.(4) The design of the two versionat has focused on the design of illustrated books. They are Emphasized the key points in learning to stimulate student interest through illustrations and charts. But t is with the strong artistic sense of the overall design, highlighting the theme of recreational, and fitness sports.(5) The contents layout of the two version is different. The model the HK version is free, without fixed limits. (6) The style of the two version is different. The PEP version is with strong academic style. The HK version is with practical style.(7) The characteristics of the two version is different. The PEP version is based on the logical order to subject the organization, attention to course content presentation form; HK version is based on physical and psychological characteristics of students to organize, with a strong operational, but the whole logic of the version is poor.(8) The experience and inspiration provided include:the legislation and supervision of the textbooks system should be strengthen; the knowledge points should be effectively integrated; student's personality should be emphasized, the operational practices should be enhanced.
