There are many methods to get information, such as oral communication, written communication, or body languages as well as gestures, but if we want to gain a large amount of information, reading is a very important way. So is the study of learning foreign languages. In the course of learning English, reading skills are the most important. How to teach students reading effectively is a challenge to many teachers.Reading theories had a greater development in the 1960s. In 1972 Gough studied the cognitive process of reading through information processing models, which is called"bottom-up"; and in 1978 Anderson's"top-down", and the reading theories kept perfecting with interactive reading and schema, which are studied and used separately. There are few scholars studying these reading models comprehensively, letting alone in Senior Three. The Senior High English Teaching Program has set that reading has two goals and two requirements, emphasizing the reading speed, themes, genre, quantity as well as understanding. The Standard of English Curriculum in 2003 has higher requirements. The goal of Level 7 is: the ability of getting and dealing with information, understanding the main idea and the author's intention, guessing new words from the context and referring, reading English newspapers or magazines which are fit for Senior high students(2003, 7). The Examination Syllabus also has the clear requirements: reading is the most major way of studying foreign languages, so the proportion of scores in the test is larger than other parts. The concrete requirements are: understanding the main idea and the theme of the reading materials, understanding the details, guessing the meanings of words and expressions according to the context, inferring, the basic structure of the passages, and understanding the purpose, viewpoints and the attitudes of the authors. Therefore, in English teaching it is very important to train the reading skills and strategies. It is well worth studying how to combine the reading requirements with the reading approaches because the guidance of teaching of Senior Three is Examination Syllabus. The reading materials of Senior Three are from the textbooks and papers, and the time is limited. So the traditional reading teaching can't meet the high demands. The purpose of this study is to improve the students'reading ability and English achievements of Senior Three by using the improved teaching methods which are based on the interactive approaches.
