The Yi nationality went through a direct transition from slave society to the national socialist society, in the result of democratic reforms, people's communes, the household contract responsibility system, and reform and opening up. With the development of society, the Yi nationality inevitably has been changing. Due to the establishment of a national grassroots political power, the state has a certain degree of control over all aspects of life of Yi society. In modern society, the old lineage system in the slavery society has been disintegration, and the role of lineage mainly reflects in the relationship between the national grass-roots governmental organizations. The problems brought about by the lineage will be highlighted, when there is a friction between the lineage and Grass-roots government. In previous studies, some scholars believe that the lineage is a product of class society, the government should use the mandatory law or other means to limit or eliminate it. However, this study suggests that the recognition of the lineage should be from its history of appearance,development and demise. Through its appropriate degree of transformation and adaptation, we can make it to conform to social development and progress as society changes.This study mainly focuses on the status of lineage in Pao Ma Ping township, Ning Lang County, analyzing the lineage in the past, present and future by the means of literature analysis,Individual interviews and questionnaire. This study is divided into a preface and three chapters. The preface focuses primarily on the research background and its significance, combing the document&literature at home. The first chapter briefly presents the origin and main features of lineage, and introduce the status of the lineage in the investigation and study locations. The second chapter discuss the lineage from the perspective of "authority","norms" and "order", respectively. The "authority" mainly notes three person respectively called De G,Su Yi and Bi Mo; The exposition of the "norms" mainly refers to the customary law existing in the Yi slave society; The exposition of the "order" focus on the maintenance of order and destruction by the lineage playing the internal and external role in it. The third chapter discuss the transformation of Yi society and the change of lineage, reflecting in the the lineage of the positive and negative effects of modern society,the thought in the relationship between the national grass-roots governmental organizations and the transformation and adaptation of the lineage as well as the perish of the lineage.The main conclusions of this study is that the change of the lineage complying with national and social development, overall. Although it brought out some negative phenomenon, we should treat it correctly. It should be through a variety of ways to be transformed,be guided and be adjusted in order to eliminate or reduce its negative effects and to expand its positive role to make it more civilized and progressive.
