Since The Founding Of The Guizhou Miao Customs Of Marriage And Family Changes

In china, Miao people is a nationality with considerable population. At present, it has a population of8.9401million (According to the5th population census in2000), in which4.2999million---48.10%is in Guizhou province. These Miao people are located mainly in the Miao and Dong autonomous prefecture in the southeast of Guizhou, the Bouyei and Miao autonomous prefecture in the south of Guizhou, the Bouyei and Miao autonomous prefecture in the southwest of Guizhou, and the northeast of Guizhou and etc.this thesis, using the Miao people in Songtao autonomous county in the northeast of Guizhou as the research object, gives a vivid analysis to the changes of the marriage and family customs of the Miao people since the establishment of PRC based on the study of family structure, marriage and family customs of the research object. Through the comparisons of Miao people of different places and times, this study focuses on the new situations and problems of the marriage and family customs of the Miao people in Songtao autonomous county since the establishment of PRC, and then gives an analysis to the internal and external reasons of these changes, and further proposes some opinions and suggestions to some of the old fashioned ideas and bad phenomena at this new time.This thesis falls into three parts in all, including the introduction, the main body and the conclusion. The main body is composed of three chapters.The first chapter for introduction part, mainly discusses since the founding of the miao people in Songtao marriage and family custom change the present research situation and meaning study method and innovations.The second chapter is "The changes of the Miao forms and family functions"."The changes of the Miao family structures and the inheritance of the property" and "The changes of the birth concept in Miao families" are included in this chapter. Chapter three is about "the changes of the Miao marriage customs"."The changed ways of the marriage between Miao people in urban and suburban areas","The changed concepts of Miao people towards devoice and re-marriage in urban and suburban areas" and "The conflicts between the Miao marriage customs and the marriage law and the legal considerations to these phenomena" are introduced in this chapter. A comprehensive analysis to the marriage concepts and culture of Miao people in urban and suburban areas since the establishment of PRC are given mainly from four aspects:the combinative ways of Miao marriage, standards of the mate choice, the average ages of the first marriages and the conflicts and integrations between the Miao marriage customs and the marriage law. What's more, the long time influencing customs of Miao----"marriage between cousins in which one of the couple is the child of the father' sisters or the mother' brothers and "no marriage between cousins in which one of the two is the child of the mother' sisters" are also mentioned here. In chapter four,"the changes of Miao family customs" are talked, with the three parts of "the changes of family celebration customs","the changes of the family belief customs" and "the changes of betrothal gifts and marriage celebration customs". A detailed description of changes of family celebration and belief customs of the Miao people in Songtao autonomous county is given here, and then the author analyzes the reasons of the changes and the worship for nature. In the section of "the changes of betrothal gifts and marriage celebration customs",the author gives an analysis to the bad customs in Miao nationality, such as the problem of high betrothal gifts, and further gives his own opinions and suggestions to solve these problems.This paper epilogue part since the founding of the miao people of marriage and family and customs of the change of the overall narrative, summarized the characteristics of the change.
