With the urbanization in China, a large number of villagers have lost their arable land, while theliving villages have been surrounded by cities, resulting in a large group of landless peasants in villagessurrounded by cities. They have to go to cities to find jobs, facing the production and life in the city.Therefore, the urban adaptation of landless peasants has become a major responsibility and an importantissue for the governments.The author's hometown is called Union Village, a village surrounded by city, which gathers near4000landless peasants. Being concern to the hometown landless peasants and convenient to collect thedata, the author applies qualitative research methods to research the economic, social and psychologicaladaptation of the landless peasants in the Union Village. On the basic of the theory of Socialization andMarginalization, the author summarized the problems of urban adaptation for the landless peasants, andanalyzed the causes, proposing solution ways. This paper has the following conclusions:The problems of urban adaptation for the landless peasants in villages surrounded by citiessummarized as:a) Basic adaptation to the economy, but marginalization in the job;b) Part of adaptation to the social field, showing closed characteristics in social interaction;c) Being not adaptation in psychological aspects, low in the city sense of belonging;The causes of urban adaptation problems for the landless peasants in villages surrounded by citiessummarized as:a) The causes of the government: low transparency of the land acquisition; a little compensationof the land acquisition; absence of aid policy;b) The causes of the society: the household registration system and social security policy lag; socialprejudicesï¼›c) The causes of the landless peasants: income instability and risk; cultural conflicts and loweducational attainment; land complex and inferiority complex.The solutions of the urban adaptation problems for the landless peasants in villages surroundedby cities:a) Government: strengthening the transparency of the land acquisition and; improving thecompensation system of the land acquisition; making aid policies;b) Social system: changing the household registration system and social security policy; eliminatingsocial prejudiceï¼›c) The landless peasants: increasing ability; expanding social interaction; strengthening self-identity.
