[Objective]:Three years has passed since the Wenchuan Earthquake disaster happened, it calls for research on the learning motivation of junior high school students in the present situation in disaster area. Investigation in the influence of the quake on students' parental rearing pattern and learning motivation is also needed, along with the mechanism that may be involved.[Subject]:Seven hundred and four sufficient samples are collected in a Junior high school in Dujiangyan for quantitative research (507from the7th grade,197from the8th grade); and the sample size for qualitative research is22(19from the7th grade,3from the8th grade, data collected from the same school as the quantitative study).[Method]:Quantitative research:Self Orientation of Achievement Motive Scale, Social Orientation Achievement Motive Scale (Yu,1987), and revision of the Parental Rearing Patterns Scale (EMBU; Yue,1993) are used as the tools in this part. The study investigates the current learning motivation level and parental rearing pattern situation of the students in disaster area, and analyzes the relationship between the two in depth. At the same time, data from junior high school students in non-disaster area is taken as a comparison sample.Qualitative research:This part of research relies on a self-developed visiting syllabus, a semi-structure interview process and an in-depth interview to discuss the potential mechanisms by which earthquake influences students'parental rearing pattern and learning motivation.[Results]:1.Three years after the earthquake, the self-oriented and the social-oriented achievement motive level of junior high school students in disaster area are both lower than those of students in non-disaster area.2.Relative to the parents of students in non-disaster area, parents of junior high school students in disaster area use more warm and understanding rearing pattern, and less severe punishment, over interference, over protection and rejection rearing patterns.3.After the earthquake, parents use warm and understanding rearing pattern more than before.4. The warm and understanding rearing pattern of parents become more protective after the earthquake while the expectation that parents placed on children's academic achievement, on the contrary, become risky factors to students' learning motivation.5.Besides the change of the parental rearing pattern and parents' expectation on children's academic achievement due to the earthquake, factors like disaster exposure, self-efficacy, individual value, school environment and school atmosphere also be influenced by the disaster which further shaped the learning motivation of the junior high school students. Under the impact of the parental rearing pattern and children's academic achievement expectation, along with all the factors mentioned above, the learning motivation of the junior high school students decreased after the earthquake.
