It is mentioned in "the national fitness program'which was published in June1995by the state council, that all schools should fully implement the Party's education policy, strive to do physical education well. We should try to give the students life-long physical education, and cultivate the students'awareness of physical activity, skills and habits.'Yoga is an exercise combining heart health, sports and entertainment, and becomes more popular with the PE teachers of all ages.By selecting10ordinary colleges and universities in Heilongjiang Province, the researcher knows about the teaching and learning of yoga, and analyzes their successful experience and shortcomings. Basing on the design theory of physical education curriculum, a set of yoga course program is developed, hoping to provide a reference for the yoga elective course in colleges and universities in Heilongjiang Province. Summarizing the whole theory, the following conclusions are drawn:(1) The characteristics and functions of yoga consist with the physical education of University. Good Yoga elective courses design can not only improve and enrich the contents of the class in ordinary colleges and universities, but also cultivate lifelong awareness of fitness. It is very important for the implementation of qualification education.(2) Yoga dose not have very high penetration rate as elective courses. And the teachers tend to be young. Only a few participated in the training system of yoga. The majority of students are not satisfied with the contents of yoga course, and they want the teacher to improve their professional knowledge and stimulate students'interest in yoga.(3) The main factors affecting ordinary colleges and universities carrying out elective yoga course are:insufficient emphasis of schools, inadequate equipment and devices, weak teachers, less curriculum, unprofessional teaching materials, and inadequate information on yoga (4) Strategies of developing elective courses in yoga are:raising awareness, changing concepts, and the full implementation of qualification education. We should optimal teaching conditions, improve the quality of the teachers, strengthen the training of teachers, and stimulate students'interest; we should also standardize the teaching system of yoga, and actively create a campus culture of fitness.(5) According to course objectives, yoga courses offer32periods and the contents are determined and chosen by experts. The elective courses mainly center on yoga posture practice, and teachers can arrange the teaching focus of the class according to the actual situation.
