Red rice is a special ecological type of Rice Varieties, and it's named by the red skin. China has a long history of red rice, rich in resources, and it's the Chinese nation proud heritage all through the ages and worth to explore, research and utilization. Red rice resources are widely distributed in the Yunnan areas. The Hani Yiche-people, living in the Ailao Mountain, engaged in terraced rice production in mountain area at least one thousand years. And still cultivate traditional red rice varieties up to now. Terraced red rice cultivation is an important component of the Yiche-people's traditional farming culture; it exists in Yiche-people's life in all aspects. It's the result of Yiche-people in the long-team production life practice, adapted to suit local conditions and of natural selection. For the Yiche-people, the red rice is not only delicious food, but also the spirit pillars of the nation. The Yiche-people's all life revolves around the red rice, which is the most basic material entities. There marriage, funeral, festive, are closely related to the red rice. It's the precipitation and condensation of the Yiche-people's history and culture. To explore the traditional ecological knowledge and traditional farming culture which is formed in the long team of terraced red rice planting of the Yiche-people, have important academic value and practical significance.This article takes the Langdi rural, Honghe county, Honghe prefecture, Yunnan province as the field, used the theories of ethnic ecology, environmental anthropology, and the method of field investigation, but also applied the theory and method of history, archaeology, literature, agriculture, botany, linguistics and mythology, for investigation of the Yiche-people. Through the research of the Yiche-people's traditional red rice planting and related folk activities, analyze their understanding of nature and the use of resources. In the rapid development of modern agriculture today, research of the Yiche-people's traditional farming culture, the find its significance for maintain biodiversity, sustainable development of ecological agriculture, and provide useful reference for the modern agricultural civilization.This paper is divided into five parts. The first chapter is introduction, introduce the research background, research methods and research significance, overview related researches of the red rice and the Yiche-people, and the situation of the field. The second chapter described and analyzed the traditional red rice planting and modern changes of the Yiche-people. The third chapter detailed described the society life of the Yiche-people around with the red rice. The fourth chapter analyzed the value of red rice planting from the economic, ecological, cultural and social aspects. The fifth chapter based on the summary of the preceding analysis, put forward some suggestions for the terrace red rice planting and for the protection and development of the traditional agricultural culture.
