Lead-in, which is the first step of a class, is one of the most basic steps in English classroom teaching.It plays an important part in accomplishing tasks, improving teaching quality and achieving teachingobjectives. Although lead-in takes up not too much time, sometimes it has a direct influence on the teachingeffects. So when introducing new contents the teacher should use a variety of methods to arouse students'enthusiasm and interest in learning English, so as to improve the teaching efficiency.The main purposes of this thesis are to know about the present situation of English lead-in in seniorhigh school and to find out the main problems. The author makes a research of the lead-in in ShangshuiNO.3senior high school then puts forward some advice of lead-in in senior high school according to theanalysis of the research results.The author adopts two methods---the classroom observation and questionnaire for the investigation.First, In order to learn the present situation of Lead-in in senior high school in English classroom teachingand find out the existing problems, the author observes20English classes of Grade One in Shangshui NO.3senior high school. Second, In order to know about teachers and students' standpoints for lead-in, theauthor investigates6teachers and100students with questionnaires. Last, the author analyzes the data ofcollected from the research and puts forward some advice of lead-in in senior high school.The results show that most of English teachers in senior high school are busy considering how toexplain knowledge points due to the excessive teaching tasks. They neglect the design of lead-in and oftenuse only one or two fix ways to lead in new lesson, as a result, few students can get useful instruction fromthe lead-in step, and the efficiency of lead-in for the English classroom teaching cannot be reflected verywell.According to the results of the investigation, the author finds out the pedagogical implications asfollows:(1) the teacher should design lead-in with a clear goal;(2) the teacher should adopt flexible waysto lead in new materials;(3) the teacher should adopt appropriate the guide language for lead-in;(4) theteacher should design the lead in with "student-centered";(5) the teacher should develop themselves in both theoretical knowledge and innovation spirit. The author hopes that this search can help the teacherrealize the importance of lead-in and adopt effective lead-in, so as to improve the teaching efficiency.
