Lead-in plays a very important role in classroom teaching.Appropriate lead-in can attract the attention of students,stimulate their learning motivation and interest in learning,improve their learning initiative,build the connection between the new knowledge and the old one and play the role of connecting link between the preceding and the following.With the development of the new curriculum reform,English teachers also pay more attention to lead-in.Therefore,the author has carried out a survey on lead-in methods in Yining senior high school in order to have a clear understanding of lead-in.The study is based on psychological constructivism learning theory and scaffolding teaching theory.In this study,classroom observation,questionnaires and interviews were used.The subjects of this study are 36 senior high English teachers of three grades and a random selection of 120 students of grade2,aiming to investigate the lead-in methods of English classes in senior high schools.This study answers the following questions: 1.What lead-in methods do teachers adopt in senior high schools? 2.What is teachers' perspective of lead-in in senior high schools? 3.What is students' perspective of lead-in in senior high schools?The results show that 1.English teachers usually use the following methods: direct lead-in method,daily communication lead-in method,question-asked lead-in method,multimedia lead-in method and reviewing lead-in method.2.Teachers and students think that the proper methods can not only make classroom atmosphere active,stimulate students' interest in learning English and also enlarge students' knowledge.According to the results of the survey,the author put forward some practical suggestions.First of all,teachers should highlight the functions of lead-in in the design of the introduction and teachers should choose the flexible methods based on the different teaching content and the needs of the students.Second,in the application of lead-in,students should be taken as the center,and the design of lead-in should reflect the students' subjectivity and teachers should consider students' knowledge level,ability and acceptability of the students in the design of lead-in.Finally,teachers should constantly improve their theoretical knowledge of lead-in and combine theory with practice to improve the effectiveness of classroom teaching.
