Study In Cartography Generalization Of Current Land Use In The Context Of ArcGIS

Land-use current map is a thematic map expressed in a spatial way referring to land-use category distribution, area as well as land-use structure, which can offer the most intuitive data for governmental decision. However, different decision layer needs maps with different scale. Therefore it is of great importance to do cartographic generalization on big-scale land use map.For the moment, the project with respect to land use plan revision is underway in China, one important job of which is to accomplish the compilation on current land use map of differential scales in light of current data. The traditional method on land use cartography has disadvantages in terms of low speed, low accuracy together with no real time. Hence it is urgent to develop a effective and efficient way to solve this issue.'Based on the urgency, this research attempts to find a workable approach to realize cartography generalization of land use in the context of ArcGIS. And three targets have been done in this research:(1) Analyze the advantage and disadvantage in terms of ArcGIS cartography generalization of land use, and come up with the whole process of it.(2) Based on the current land-use database, establish a comprehensive regulation on cartography generalization of land use, and the key technical method has been deeply formulated.(3) In accordance with case study, validate the research approach. Valuate two indicators(area changing and map load) after cartography generalization. And after the validation, the approach is approved to be suitable to apply to 1:10000 or 1:75000.
