Since its independence from the Soviet Union, the steady development of Sino-Russian bilateral relations has become the framework of mutual understanding and trust between the two countries. However during the ongoing development period, both sides have encountered a variety of challenging issues, which continue to hinder the two country's cross-border trading development. To gain a proper, unbiased understand of the current situation, one must be fully aware of the circumstances surrounding the involved countries recent history and developments. This requires an objective assessment of the political and economic relations and trade relations between the two countries, as well as a correct understanding of the Cold War and it's influence on world trade. As frontier trade between China and Russia continues to develop, inter-country relations have become more and more complicated. The number of trade disputes increased as Russia continued to adopt strict trade policies. Russia often prefers to resolve these issues through the use of modern WTO rules and trade-specific legislation, whereas Chinese is used to combating such problems through both domestic and international laws. This thesis discuses the development of Sino-Russian frontier trade, it's future, and what problems it faces. This thesis is made up of four parts:The first part describes the development of Russia's role in border trade, how Russian-Chinese border trade can promote development in the Russian Far East and China as well as border provinces; Part two discusses Sino-Russian border trade history and its unique aspects; The third part discusses problems facing both countries, including government laws and regulations; and finally part four discusses development strategies of both governments.
