The term"Food Security"was firstly proposed in 1970s and aimed to eliminate hunger and malnutrition, now China has been in the stage of building a well‐off society. So this paper believes that big difference exists between the backgrounds of China's food security today and that of which when the term was firstly discussed. Hereby this paper suggests that the concept of food security in China should be defined as follows: Food Security are the abilities and activities of a country that can guarantee its residents to meet their varies need for food, these abilities and activities mainly focus on political and economic aspects. Therefore, food security can be seen as state‐provided public goods, and it contains two vital factors: one is the level of security; the other is the efficiency to provide such level. Naturally, a higher level and a higher efficiency both mean a better performance of a country's food security. China has resolved the issue of food and clothing, so the current two missions of China's food security are as follows: Firstly, more attention needs to be put into food supply structure in order to adapt to ever‐increasing food demand structure of the nation. Secondly, more work needs to be done to keep improving the efficiency of food security in order to guarantee its sustainable development.Nowadays, China is undergoing rapid industrialization and urbanization; this is the basic environment of China's food security. It is necessary to combine food security and food international trade together in such days of deepening globalization. This paper demonstrates the positive effects that international food market can contribute to China's food security. By expanding the use of international food markets, China can maintain optimistic expectations of the total amount of food supply in long‐run; can smooth short‐term fluctuations in food supply; can improve the structure of food supply; can improve the efficiency of food security while do no harm to the level itself. All in one, expanding the use of international food markets can contribute to food security and its sustainable development.Due to hard constraints of water and land resources, there is no comparative advantage in China's grain production, so it's wise to abandon the pursuit of a high rate of food self‐sufficiency. Meanwhile, there are other agricultural products that have a comparative advantage. So it's feasible to protect the interests of farmers by adjusting agricultural production structure and by intra‐ agricultural industry trade; these are also a way to guarantee food security and its sustainable development.China's future food security situation faces two trends. On one hand, the undergoing industrialization will definitely increase the domestic demand of food, while domestic production won't able to fulfill such demand, so it's certain that China is going to enlarge the use of international food market. On the other hand, both of the global food production and trade have higher increase rates than population growth; this means there is optimistic external environment for China to open up its food trade. At the same time, the rapid growing domestic economy can be the powerful backbone for the enlarged use of the international market. Finally, there are no obvious political risks that will harm China's expanding international food market. From the point of enhance China's food security, this paper raises some suggestions related to international food markets as conclusion. From macrocosmic perspective, China needs a comprehensive and correct understanding of food security; China also needs a better understanding of the significance that international food market can contribute to food security. Then China needs to expand its food import dependency in some extent in order to increase the use of the world food market both in depth and width. In practice, China needs to reform its food distribution and trade system in order to establish service‐oriented trading system; China also needs to enhance its future markets to discover various signals in food production, distribution and other activists. In order to utilize the comparative advantages, it's advisable to make suitable intra‐agricultural industry trade strategies by studying the status of resource endowments. Finally, try to directly "go out" to utilize the world's agricultural resources is also highly suggested.
