Urban land is the basis of formation and development of the city, it is the carrier of social, economic, cultural and other activities. Currently, China is in a stage of rapid economic development.The rapid expansion of city size and the rising demand for construction land, brought to the city more and more land space and environmental pressures. Extensive use of urban land have become increasingly prominent. To ease the contradiction between supply and demand of land, meet the needs of resource-saving society, promote population, economy, resources and environmental sustainability, therefore, the way of extensive urban land use of must be changed, for urban land use in intensity.Basis on the Social Science Fund,"Urban land use intensification potential analysis and policy choice" (Fund Number:09BZZ024)in this paper.The research object is residential land (2008) of downtown Wuhan(except for The Wuhan Economic and Technological Development Zone and East Lake eco-tourism Area).Analyze the utilization of living space and the problems Of Wuhan City in recent years.Such as:The land use structure are not reasonable enough,further optimization. Cultivated land loss in severe cases because of real estate development continues to heat up. Urban land idle poor are serious because of poor land management.And base on the road grid and terrain to demarcate border of evaluation units. Through Selecting input intensity, the intensity and land use efficiency 3 class index, And well-grounded infrastructure degrees, public facilities complete degree, the afforestation, comprehensive volume rate, building density, average layer, population density and land price realize level 8 secondary indexes,establish evaluation index system, estimates each residential land evaluation unit intensity, as to divide the type of using the transition, intensive use, appropriate use and low use. And analyzse the potential of low use and appropriate use units. Through the planning structure adjustment land potential calculation and planning allowed cubage land potential estimates,divide the type of high potential areas, the potential area and low potential areas. Tapping the clear number and extent of the potential of each unit.Through research, the following conclusions:High intensity residential land as a whole, but there is still great potential for use. Area of residential land intensity of the different potential distribution is quite different. Central area of residential land is intensive high and potential for small; suburban low intensity, and great potential.
