Research On University Industry Collaboration Model Selection For Thailand

This research aims to select suitable university-industry collaboration (UIC) model for UIC in Thailand, and find out characteristics that it should be for that partnership model. The research methodologies consist of literature investigation, case analysis, professional interview and comparative study. First, the data were collected from literatures, and internet to get broad perspective of UIC model, then UIC model study cases from various countries are gathered and analyzed deeply to get insight each kind of model and its participants'(which are university and industry) characteristics. Second, the data getting from interview and literature are analyzed to identify characteristics of Thai industry and university. Third, each model characteristics from case study and Thai UIC characteristics are compared, to find a model that compatible with Thai UIC. And finally, the UIC model is chosen and proposed its characteristics.The findings from study cases of UIC model in various countries show that Science Park is the highest level and most successful UIC model, followed by Membership model, and Agency model which is the lowest level and is a basic of those two upper models. Technological capabilities of UIC participants are the most important factor for UIC successful, high technological capabilities bring about high success. In Thailand perspective, Thai UIC level and technological capabilities are quite low, and there is a big gap between Thai universities and industries. Therefore the characteristics of Thai UIC at the present seem to fit best with the single-multiple Agency model, which the agency belongs to the university with independent management and new stuff, to lead Thai UIC be more successful, then continuously develop partnership model to Membership model and Science Park model.
