The Data Warehouse Risk Management Research Based CMMI

Like other project management, project risk will occur frequently because of the project resource limitation, planning, technology and business issues in software projects. How to control and management project risk and reduce the risk high failure result to project is main work to all software project manager. To data warehouse (DW) project, because of the architectural complexity, special running environment, high implementation cost, and uncertain return on investment, the risk management for DW project has many differences to traditional software projects. The data warehouse (DW) which implements a shared data warehouse and/or subject-oriented data mart (DM), has become a central process for decision support-oriented data management. It supports enterprise strategic decision and operational decision activities. The company recognized that improved business information management and delivery would be crucial to execute its long-term business goal, and DW was given the highest priority in enterprise information matrix. But the complexity of business data and operation process and high increment of transaction data from the other information system makes it difficult to build the data warehouse system. Building and deployment of date warehouse is complex process, variant project risks can occur at any place and any time in project life cycle. The poor management of the DW project risk management is principal reason for project failure.In the paper, we will takes an in-depth look at the issues behind the process of DW project, study risk management theory of software engineering and success project practice of DW project, then apply CMMI methodology system to a practice-a true data warehouse project in mobile communication area.
