Research On The Impact Of Foreign Trade To Border Port Cities

With the reform and opening, the economies of China's coastal cities develop rapidly. In order to promote the further development, in the early1990s,China expanded the open from coastal cities to the regions along the rivers and border. China has a long inland border and many border cities, which locate in the western and ethnic minority areas. The developments of border cities have the positive affection to the provinces' economy. Manzhouli port locate on the crossing of China, Mongolia and Russia, as one of the most important border port cities in China's north border, Manzhouli has a long history of foreign trade. After the opening-up, Manzhouli's border trade and economic growth made a considerable progress.This paper takes the impact of foreign trade to economic growth for study, combines the quantitative and qualitative analysis, uses econometric co-integration and Granger causality test。The conclusion is made that foreign trade is one of the reason of border areas economic growth. During the development of foreign trade, there are still some problems, such as the processing of low value-added products, the related facilities is incomplete. Besides the foreign trade, border port cities should combine their own advantages to all-round development to ensure the vitality and growth of the economy.Based on the analysis of Manzhouli's actual phenomenons, the paper proposes the following recommendations:Firstly, remain opening and promote the upgrading of industry at the same time. Secondly, we should pay more attention to the diversification of industry, ensuring the continued growth of the tertiary industry, and tap the potential of the industry's growth. Last but not least, strengthen the infrastructure construction and improve the construction of port and city. This paper not only makes advices to Manzhouli port, but also makes the references to China's other border cities.
