Abstract/Summary:
Poverty in minority regions is not only seen as an economic or social problem but a political problem. Since most of the minority regions locating at borderlines in China, there may be an impact on the stability and unity for the whole country if problems among different minorities can't be solved properly or the disparities in politics, cultures and economics among minority regions and Han regions can't be reduced. In recent years, poverty in China, especially the poverty in minority regions, has changed to be a complex and diverse problem from the former single economic one because of the great changes in the society and the rapid growth in economics. China is still a country at its developing stage, but minority people have been in a condition of bi-poverty embodies material poverty and cultural poverty. It indicates that in this country, poverty of minority groups has become the main part of Chinese poverty with56multiple minorities living in their own localities which are widely distributed. Based on the above facts, it is quite necessary for Chinese government to carry forward a complete development in minority regions in order to remit the poverty. Solution for this problem are directly related to the stability and unity among various minorities, the common development and enrichment of the whole nation, and the establishment of the harmonious society.This thesis focuses on the poverty of minority groups and from the perspective of minority people, using the study of Dowor people at Molidawo County in Inner Mongolia as a specific case. Based on theoretical and empirical analyses, some suggestions are given by using both the quantitative and qualitative research methods.There are six chapters are included in this thesis:The first chapter falls into literature review about the poverty in minority regions both at home and abroad. The research object, research contents and research rationale are also mentioned in this chapter.The definition of "poverty" and its detonation are discussed in the second chapter with description to the types and characteristics of minority poverty in Inner Mongolia. In this chapter the author also analyzes causes of minority poverty, such as policies of the government, natural environment, geographic locations and humanistic literacy etc.The present situation of poverty for Dowor people at Molidawo County is introduced in Chapter three. Tri-poverty at material level and cultural level are the basic situation in front of minority people. Here, material poverty refers to in balance between income and expenditure, low consumption ability and imperfection of social protection. As to cultural poverty, it means that minority people are always of backward thinking, with less education and ignorance to traditional culture.In Chapter four, causes of the poverty for Dowor people at the Molidawo County are analyzed. External factors like natural disasters and remote location and internal factors such as less education and low humanistic literacy have both put an impact on the poverty of Dowor people at Molidawo County, with the former one as incentives, and the other as primary causes.The author declares methods of how to solve the problem of minority poverty in Chapter five. Seven specific suggestions are proposed, such as to enlarge investments to the infrastructures, to emphasize the spiritual civilization; push forward the practice of agricultural protection; and update the government managing modes and etc.Chapter six is about the conclusion of this study. Limitations and problems are also mentioned in this part.
