Urbanization is a symbol of social progress and human civilization, which has become a common trend of development of each country. China has a high speed of economic development and urbanization with an increasing number of cities in the past years. However, the urban geological environmental problems such as the irrational exploitation of geological resources, the irrational use of the geological environment and geological disasters, etc. have become increasingly prominent in the urban construction. The problems constraint and impact a sustainable development of the city to a certain extent. A scientific and rational use of urban geological resources and environment has become an urgent issue facing the urban construction. Therefore, to carry out a suitability evaluation of the urban geological environment has an important practical significance.Firstly, it’s necessary to consider the research of urban geological environmental evaluation at home and abroad and to analyze the factors of the nature, society, economy and policy.Then the index systems of the urban geological environment’s suitability evaluation are respectively established depending on the various evaluation objectives in this paper, which provides a reference and a basis for future urban geological environment evaluation. A reasonable evaluation methods or mathematical model corresponding to the evaluation objectives has been determined referring to national industry standards and related documents after finishing the index system of evaluation. For example, we can first get the weights of each index with the Analytic Hierarchy Process and determine a quantitative classification of the evaluation results with the composite index method or the fuzzy comprehensive evaluation method the evaluation system finally.Secondly, an information integration platform of the urban geological environmental evaluation is developed with a combination of the traditional method of urban geological environment evaluation system and information technology, which needs the repeated appraisals and a lot of software development work. The information integration platform can make the previous cumbersome evaluation process simple. At the same time, an complete database system of urban geological environment has been established with a combination of evaluation system and a database. The evaluation results are showed as the GIS render maps.Finally, we apply the information integration platform to the urban geological environment suitability evaluation of Beijing area. On the one hand, the rational development and use of geological resources, optimize the allocation of limited geological environment provides a reference; on the other hand, the rationality of the evaluation system and the stability and practicality of the information platform have been tested and demonstrated.
