With the continuously development of market economy, the logistics industry called "the third profits source" is attracting more and more attention of all the sectors of society. As an important part of the logistics system, distribution center should have a reasonable location, which will be directly related to the operational efficiency and economic benefits. Reasonable location for the distribution center could effectively reduce distribution costs and delivery time, which could help to improve the operational efficiency of the logistics system. Given the importance of location problems, a large number of researchers have conducted study on this and brought about many method for location selection of the distribution center. Now it has become the research-emphasis of the logistics field. GIS is a technology system used to solve and analyze the geo-spatial data comprehensively, and this system is used for logistics business,which will change current logistic management into intelligent management and make itself the best tool for site selection of logistics center due to its powerful spatial analysis function and integrated decision function.The results obtained by this paper are as follows:(l)Analyzed and summarized the current situation of planning and researching logistics center at home and abroad,then listed the problems for site selection of logistics center which laid the foundation for this study.(2)Described the basic theory of the logistics distribution center location, and introduced the advantages of GIS which could be used in the selection of logistics center by the composition and function of the introduction of GIS.(3)Summarized and analyzed the classic logistics distribution center location method.The traditional method is divided into qualitative and quantitative methods, then in this part we introduced the advantages and disadvantages of several major models, lastly we summarized the limitations of traditional methods.(4)Focusing on the problems of traditional location selection model of logistics distribution center, we improved the gravity method and P-median location model with GIS. The improved gravity method used the fuzzy clustering algorithm to realize the classification of demand points,and achieved the best path of distribution with the network analysis function of ArcGIS Server. The improved P-median location model selected the best location by multi-criteria decision making method based on GIS.After we added the representative factors which can influent the location cost, the new model could improve the accuracy of the site selection.(5)In this paper,we analyzed two examples with the improved models. After comparing with the results of traditional location models and analysis of the actual situation, the improved methods are justified to be feasible and scientific.
