For the large volume and heavy quality, large gantry machine center usually adopts the mode ofproduction to order, which cannot quickly respond to market’s requirement and develop high speed,high stiffness and high precision products to meet the market need.To improve the design efficiency and meet the customers’ demand with personalization anddiversification, this paper took large gantry machining center as the researched subject, and studiedthe technology about the products’ rapid design and analysis by modular design, unit-structure design,parameter design and Finite Element Analysis, then a rapid design and analysis system for the largegantry machine centers was developed The contents about this paper mainly include:1. According to the product function and structure analysis, the modular division was conductedfor the products. After the modular division for the series of products, the product planning andmodular planning were conducted. Finally the modular configuration was researched based onconstraints and case-based-reasoning.2. For the similarity in the large parts of the machine centers, the unit-structures with the samefunction but different structure were extracted. On the platform of UG and its second developmentenvironment, the technology of rapid retrofit for structure was studied.3. Based on the unit-structure and ANSYS APDL language, the rapid analysis for structures wasstudied. With the ANSYS Workbench software, the static and the modal of the large parts wereanalyzed, and the optimizations for the structures were conducted to enhance the performance withthe different unit-structures and parameter values.4. With the studies of the above, a rapid design and analysis system for the large gantry machinecenters was developed, which can search for product family and corresponding modular satisfied thecustomers’ demands, and quickly finished the modular’s retrofit by the unit-structures selection andsizes modification.
