With the rapid development of science and technology and social continuousprogress in today’s world, a series of requirements are put forward to machining, especially to precision machining. Machine tools play an extremely important role inmanufacturing as machine processors. Besides the development of design andautomation technology, using new material in a potential research area meets themodern manufacturing requirements of high precision, high efficiency and low cost. The traditional cast iron material with the defects of poor damping characteristics andhigh costs, is increasingly limited by processing technology. The modern resin-matrixcomposites compared to cast iron, which has good vibration, low thermal conductivity, high corrosion resistance, short manufacturing cycle and many other advantages, isgradually replacing traditional materials and dominating in the materials applied onprecision machine tools. Therefore, the studies on the performance of that material andits application on bed have great significance for improving the machining accuracy, reducing manufacturing costs as well as to promoting the development of the wholemanufacturing industry. In this paper, firstly, research results at home and abroad are comprehensivelyreferred. The resin-matrix composites specimens are made on the basis that the groupdistribution and process order of materials are determined in the existing conditions. And then the specimens are tested for elastic modulus, poisson’s ratio, material damping, density, coefficient of linear expansion and thermal conductivity relied on a mechanicalcompany and the test results are analyzed. A contrast is made between the materialproperties measured in test and that of cast iron so as to verify the feasibility of usage inmachine bed. After that, a model of precision CNC lathes is taken as example, whosebed is modified for the processing characteristics and work requirements and thatresin-matrix composites has little density. For bed static structural analysis and heatanalysis are prepared to solve the problem of simplifying and imposing of force loadand heat load which are calculated. Finally, the dynamic, static and thermalcharacteristics of two kinds of material beds are studied through the results of modalanalysis, harmonic analysis, structural analysis of the static, steady-state thermalanalysis and thermal-structural coupling analysis which use finite element method.Contrasting the analysis results, resin-matrix composites is proved to be superior in application on machine bed based on the fact that resin-matrix composites bed hasbetter damping capacity, smaller deformation and more excellent thermal stability thancast iron bed in the same work conditions. The study results above have a preferable reference value and guiding significancefor resin-matrix composites applied in the machine beds.
