As widely used metal cutting equipment, surface grinder’s design and development directly affects the machining accuracy and surface roughness. Optimization design of its structure and improve its static and dynamic performances the most important ways to ensure processing precision and production efficiency.This article unifies the domestic and foreign existing grinder structure. Design the overall structure of surface grinder by using modular design method. Do a detailed calculation and selection of three axis feed drive system. Use3D software to establish the key components of the surface grinder and assemble them in the software. Apply the finite element analysis technology on grinder main structure of the dynamics analysis and optimization. The main work is as follows:(1) Divide the surface grinder’s structure into three big modules:base module, linear motion module and the main movement module. In order to realization the overall optimization design of the surface grinder, each module provides a variety of options. This design of the surface grinder use gray cast iron bed and middle waist pillar, choose servo motor drives the ball screw mode. The main movement is electric spindle. The grinding wheel is CBN material. According to the working principle of surface grinder, optimize the combination of parts. Make a reasonable arrangement for each axis. A horizontal shaft pillar waist mobile surface grinding machine structure is designed.(2) Building the3D model based on Feature Modeling and bottom-up virtual assembly in Solidworks. Check the product design dimensions if there is assembling interference.(3) Application of finite element analysis of grinder bed for static and dynamic analysis. In order to improve the dynamic performance, the arrangement of ribbed plate has been optimized. Modal analysis was performed to the different arrangement of pillar waist, after that get the best way. Analyse the different assemble way of ball screw by modal. According to the analysis result and each shaft arrangement, select the best installation scheme.
