With the development of technology, progress of social and prosperity of economic, higher and higher requirements of abrasive belt grinder are proposed to meet market: more variety and small batches are required, full-featured, high-quality, high-reliable and high efficiency of product are also required. At the same time shorter product delivery time and more reasonable cost performance are hoped. In order to adapt to market competition, improving the technological content of China-made abrasive belt grinder to win domestic and international market, in this paper, based on the analysis of functional, applying modular design approach on abrasive belt grinder to faster and better meet market demand.In this paper, the theory of modular design is expanded based on the previous studies. The theory of modular design applied to the design of abrasive belt grinder and the method of abrasive belt grinder modular design are discussed.A set of formula which is a quantitative basis of modular design process is proposed based on decomposing modular design process. Functional analysis and needed parameters in modeling that to obtain users'requirements, determine the main parameters, define the general function are detailed analyzed and researched. A set of functional analysis theory and modeling methods are proposed. The structure model of abrasive belt grinder modular design and product configuration design process based on the model are studied.
