The features and recent progress on emulsion polymerization and polystyrene acrylic emulsion were reviewed in this thesis. The characteristic and research progress in recent years was summarized. Characteristics and present situation of the maleic anhydride class emulsion polymerization were also studied. Also introduce the containing fluorine maleic anhydride core-shell emulsion-free preparation, properties, related applications, modification, characterization, and the core-shell emulsifier-free polymerization. The present studies coud be divided into the following three parts.First, alcohol maleic mono-/diester were synthesized by using maleic anhydride, isooctyl alcohol, laurel alcohol, hexadecanol and octadecanol as raw materials. The optimized reaction conditions have been discussed, and laurel alcohol malate was found to be the most excellent reactive emulsifier, by comparison of emulsifiability and surface tension.Second, the multi-styrene-arylate emulsor, which was synthesied by laurel alcohol malate, butyl acrylate, styrene and acrylic acid, is better than traditional styrene-acrylic emulsor in hardness, viscosity, bibulous rate, stability and tensile strength etc. The technological conditions of synthetic emulsion were optimized by analyzing the influences of reaction condition.Third, methods and characteristics for modification of multi-styrene-arylate emulsor with N-alyl-perfluoropentyl sulfonamide and vinyltriethoxysilane (VTES) were studied. As the results shows, the optimal reaction condition is2.5%mass concentration of the reactive emulsifier and50%-55%of water, reacting for5.0-6.0h and controlling the temperature in the rage of75-80℃. In these cases, the obtained polymer emulsion maintains benign stability for one year. More interestingly, it could form a film spontaneously by laying aside under room temperature for18hours. Furtherly, the core-shell emulsifier-free styrene-acrylate emulsion was obtained, with BA+ST+MAA served as the shell and BA+ST+AM treated as the core. In addition, its structure and properties were also studied.Finally, the multi-styrene-arylate emulsor, which was synthesized by adding iron oxide powder, rust-proof titanium composite iron powder, rectorite soil (LT) slurry, styrene and acrylic acid into the emulsifier-free styrene-acrylate emulsion, is better than traditional styrene-acrylic emulsor in adhesion, water resistance and salt tolerance.
