As an energy of high quality and industrial chemical of great importance, the product of fossil oil have been wildly used in the industry, agriculture,national defence and daily life. The reserve of the fossil oil,especially the high-class oil, is less and less because of the massive extraction. At present, crude oil has entered a stage of thick oil exploitation. Heavy oil is difficult to transport because it’s caky and with high viscosity in normal temperature.There are many types of pump used for heavy oil transportation, including centrifugal pump, plunger pump and screw pump. Many disadvantages exist when these pumps are used in the heavy oil transportation, such as low efficiency, high energy consumption, big volume and mass, high cost, short service life, being pollutive to the environment and so on. Developing a new kind of pump for heavy oil transportation which could avoid the disadvantages above is meaningful.This paper researched a new kind of rotary viscous oil pump which belongs to rotary displacement pump, using a pair of cylindrical cam as its rotors. The rotary viscous oil pump is simple and innovative in structure, small in volume and mass, big in output volume, high in efficiency and low in energy consumption and noise. These advantages make it suitable for heavy oil transportation.The structure of the pump was researched when its3D model was built and its motion simulation was worked out with the software UG. The working principle of the pump was analysed based on its structure and3D model.The general design of the pump was carried out to improve the performance of the pump. According to the working principle of the pump, the main working parts were designed when the reasonable and efficacious seal plan was decided for different seal positions. Meanwhile, the oil-trapped phenomenon was studied detailed to eliminate its negative impact.The research in the manufacture technology of the pump was followed. The technical problems of the main parts of the pump were raised up, and corresponding solving methods were figured out. The manufacture process cards were made for production.A sample pump whose make was265D was made according to the design and manufacture technology of this paper, and a performance testing experiment was designed. As the experiment showed, the pump worked steadily with no leakiness outside the pump and very low noise, as well as low energy consume. In a word, this new kind of pump has a bright application prospect in the field of oil transportation.
