Based on the theoretical significance and utility value, a history and current status ofviolin research using technological means are introduced, and in the meanwhile need forstudying the sound producing mechanism of violin in terms of mechanics and vibration isanalyzed, which aims at revealing the voice producing mechanism of violin and therelationship between mechanical characteristics of violin and its voice, and exploring anobjective method of evaluating violin in terms of physics. In this paper, the main components of violin and their acoustic function are introduced indetails, combined with theoretical analysis. Several vibration modes of violin strings areanalyzed, and physical phenomenon is revealed through some experiments withthree-dimensional dynamometer and high-speed camera; the important role of violin bridgeplaying in voice producing is elaborated, and the mechanics property of violin bridge isstudied with the finite element analysis via ANSYS; experiments with piezoelectric sensorsare carried out to measure the vibration of sound box when plucking and playing violin, andsound simulation of violin body’s vibration is performed using MATLAB tools combinedwith spectral analysis, and also evaluation method for the violin sound quality is discussedwith spectral analysis. Conclusions are found out through the experiments and analysis: a greater tension isproduced when bowing the strings, which produces a vibration force in the vertical directionof violin top via pulling force and torque acting on the feet of violin bridge, and hence a loudvoice is produced by the violin top; the vibration of violin bridge is excited mainly in thelongitudinal direction of string with obvious upside vibration, and a obvious deformation isgenerated close to bridge feet, the size and thickness of which can affect the vibration of theviolin top; measuring the vibration of the violin using the piezoelectric sensors, and hencegetting spectrum diagram, can be a very good method for evaluating violin. In this paper mechanics and acoustics knowledge are synthesized and used to reveal thevibration and voice producing mechanism of violin with the static, dynamics and spectrumanalysis, providing theoretical basis for violin making, adjustment and evaluation.
