First, the current state and development trends of numerical control system athome and abroad are researched, and the characteristics of5-axis machining andembedded CNC system are studied. Second, the Unified Modeling Language (UML)and the Concurrent Object Modeling and Architectural Design Method (COMET)are simply introduced. Then, an embedded5-axis CNC system is analyzed anddesigned based on COMET. With this method, the research problems are describedand the Use Case Models are established in the requirement model developmentstage. The internal structure and operation mode of the system are researcheddeeply in the analysis model development stage through static model, objectstructuring and dynamic model. In the design model development stage, the systemis divided into I/O subsystem, system service subsystem, user interface subsystem,tool magazine subsystem, motion subsystem and control subsystem based on thesubsystem construction criterions. And the system is built into several tasks withseparate execution thread based on task construction criterions such as temporarycluster and control cluster and mutually exclusive cluster. Also the communicationinterface between tasks and subsystems is given in this process. Finally, the initialsoftware architecture is obtained in the above analysis and design.COMET-based CNC system software architecture design makes the embedded5-axis CNC system’s structure more clear and lays a solid foundation for thesubsequent detailed design.
