Drift is the important passage for miners’ commute,equipment and coal transport. Drifttransportation is a significant process in coal mine production with the characteristics ofcomplex environment, various equipments, frequently moving miners and more accidents.Safety evaluation and building the safety guarantee system for drift transportation aresignificant to ensure the safety in coal production.The characteristics and present problems of drift transportation are analyzed. The safetyevaluation methods are discussed based on scopes and pros&cons. And finally fault treeanalysis and analytic hierarchy process are combined to evaluate the drift transportationsystem. The types of drift transportation accident are described. The essential factors whichcause the accidents are analyzed. The relationship between the accidents and the essentialfactors is also illustrated.Fault tree analysis method is adopted to build the fault tree from top to bottom and solvethe minimal cut sets, the minimal path sets and the structure importance. The essential eventsare also ranked based on the structure importance. Analytic hierarchy process method isadopted to build hierarchy model of drift transportation. According to1~9scale method, thejudgment matrix is structured about criterion level relative to target level and scheme levelrelative to criterion level. And then the consistency check of the judgment matrix is made.Finally, the weight relative to target level of the events in scheme layer is calculated andranked. Two safety evaluation methods verify and complement each other and find out themain factors that cause the drift transportation accident: pedestrian violation, locomotivedriver violation and poor dispatching.According to the evaluation results and the present condition in the coal mine, the safety guarantee system for drift transportation is developed by considering three aspects: the safetyof locomotive, monitoring and dispatching. This system has run in good conditionunderground more than1year. The results illustrate that the system is stable and reliable andthe system is relevant to decrease drift transportation accidents and promote the dispatchingefficiency.
